Category of problem: Diets for the poor being restricted due to the government being shut down
Level of problem: National
Article concerns: Government not supplying funds via WIC to infants for formula.
Effect on families:
Infants not being able to consume formula when the families run out of money because WIC (Women, infants, children) is shut down as well and not giving out money needed for the poor for their children to eat. They did figure out that funds will be supplied till the end of October but there is no guarantee after that.
My opinion on the subject:
In my honest opinion, even though the government is "shut down," should not mean that people are going hungry when they specifically rely on the government for their food funds. I especially have a problem with this when infants and children are not going to be able to consume adequate formula if this shutout lasts any longer than the month of October. Thankfully funds will be given throughout October but the fact that November and so forth is not guaranteed as well in my opinion is a disgrace. Our government needs to look after the needs of the citizens, even when there is turmoil within both parties amongst their disagreements.
