Man Given Probation in Wreck that Killed Toddler

Category: Community, Law

Level: National

Concerning: An enacted policy that has been passed to deal with a problem/issue that individuals/families face.

Why is this important/how does this affect individuals/families? This issue has an extremely negative affect on the Travis County community, specifically the family of the victim.  This incident is also important in that it could serve as a precedent for future situations of similar nature.

My Views: It is hard to put my response to this article into words. It baffles me how a man who participated in an intoxicated hit-and-run wreck that killed a toddler was only given four years of probation. The only word that comes to mind is injustice. I am flabbergasted by the lack of sentencing. This man, who was suspected to be intoxicated, hit a small child with his car and fled the scene, leaving him to die. This man should have been given life in prison. In addition to murdering an innocent child, the man then tampered with physical evidence. I simply cannot wrap my head around the fact that the “man has been placed on community supervision”. That is NOT justice; it is a revolting example of the lack of justice in our court system. My heart breaks for the family of the deceased child. They have lost their two-year-old son, and will never get true justice for his murder. I can only hope that this incident does not set a precedent for future situations of similar nature. Based on this situation, it seems that an individual can commit murder, flee the scene then tamper with evidence, and only be given probation. Is that what a life is worth? Four years of “community supervision”? I think not. This man deserves MUCH worse.
