This article discusses a study conducted by UT finds that 22,286 Texas women may be denied abortions due to the restrictions which go into effect on October 29.

My views:

I was happy to see that this study had been conducted. I’ve talked a lot about House Bill 2 on this blog, stating that it is a thinly veiled attempt to deny Texas women their constitutional right to choose. This study shows exactly how many women will be affected once abortion clinics with doctors who were unable to gain admitting privileges in local hospitals close at the end of this month. The number of women who must drive more than 100 miles to obtain an abortion will triple as abortion clinics will remain open in only seven Texas counties. The result is that fully one-third of women who seek an abortion will be unable to obtain one. In addition, the increased time it will take to be seen for an abortion means that more women will be undergoing the procedure in the second trimester. This increases cost and health risks to the mother.

I would like for someone to explain to me how a bill that denies access to a constitutional right to one-third of those who seek it is legal. Passing legislation restricting gun ownership in this country is next to impossible, even though guns kill seven American children every day. If Republicans are really interested in saving the children of this nation, they should focus on restricting gun control and funding supplemental food programs for the 17 million children who have food insecurity.
