Why is this important/how does this affect
individuals/families?
Women keeping their rights, especially ones concerning their
bodies
My Views:
The Texas legislature has been living in the stone ages for
a long time, especially with governor Rick Perry’s leadership. Senator Wendy
Davis running for governor really allows women to have an influential voice in
the Texas legislature and guarantees that bills that alienate women’s rights
will not be passed. I think that Wendy Davis it the perfect candidate for
governor because she is essentially the exact opposite in every way of Rick
Perry. When the abortion bill was trying to pass this summer, Wendy Davis dug
her heels in, and stood her ground for all Texas women and filibustered for
eleven hours in order to stop the bill from passing. Even though later on in
the summer the bill ended up getting passed, it was one of the first times that
anyone had stood up for women’s rights in the Texas legislation. I sincerely hope that Davis gets elected, it
will be nice to see what kind of new policies she enacts, and to see how she
steers the direction of Texas lawmaking.
