Guns in schools

Category: Crime

Level: State

Allowing guns to be in schools to use as protection against intruders.

This affects families and our society because if this is implemented it could protect the people of our society. I will also cause a lot of controversy for the people who want this enforced and the people who are against it.

As intense and outrages this plan to bring guns into schools seems, at what point do we agree that more protection is needed. Since the many shootings and violent attacks that have taken place, I believe we do need more protection. Schools have more and more frequently been targeted for violence making it a huge issue. I am skeptical of whether it is completely safe that there be weapons so close to children but feel that they are already unsafe. Learning that they are planning to put a fingerprint recognition would make it incredibly hard for someone to obtain these weapons, especially a student. It may seem drastic but might eventually save the lives of many. Just knowing that there is some sort of protection will prevent people from wanting to attack. It will hopefully bring a sense of security for the children as well as faculty members. Hopefully the school resource officer will have thorough background checks to have this privilege and is trustworthy. It is unfortunate that we have been brought to these measures but I agree that it must change. To think that people used to keep their doors unlocked all the time and we had so much more trust is not comforting. Our country continues to keep getting more and more violent and we keep getting more and more scared for our safety. The degree we have come to to protect ourselves is unfortunate and limits us to a great deal.
